Series Overview
Welcome to Congratulations: The Sermon on the Mount Devotional — a journey through Jesus’ most famous teaching in Matthew 5–7. In these chapters, Jesus redefines what it means to be blessed, righteous, and fulfilled. His words stand in direct contrast to the values of the world. Rather than applauding status, comfort, and self-sufficiency, Jesus congratulates those who are humble, hungry for righteousness, merciful, pure, and even persecuted.
Series Devotionals
-
In this first part of the series, we begin with the Beatitudes — Jesus’ opening declarations of blessing that set the tone for everything that follows. These are not just poetic ideals or spiritual clichés; they are powerful invitations into a new way of living in the Kingdom of God. Each time Jesus says “blessed,” He is saying, “Congratulations — you’ve found the way to life as it was meant to be.” And that journey begins with two surprising truths: that blessing is found in spiritual poverty and in mourning that leads to divine comfort.
-
In Part Two, “The Meek,” we encounter a virtue that is deeply misunderstood. Meekness is often confused with weakness, but Jesus defines it as submitted strength—strength that’s surrendered to God’s authority. This devotional invites us to consider the true power found in letting go of control, yielding our anger, and trusting that God leads us not to defeat, but to inheritance.
-
In Part Three, “Hunger & Thirst”, we encounter a primal metaphor that reveals a spiritual truth: we are all searching for satisfaction, but only one hunger leads to fulfillment. Jesus declares that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness—not success, approval, or comfort—are the ones who will be truly satisfied. This hunger is not a passing craving; it's a soul-deep longing for right standing with God and a life formed by His will. And the promise is this: those who crave His righteousness will never be left empty.
-
In Part Four, “Merciful & Pure in Heart,” we are reminded that mercy and purity are not personality traits—they are the fruit of a transformed life. Mercy is love in action: the choice to forgive and serve others even when it costs us. Purity is not about perfection—it’s about undivided devotion. Together, these Beatitudes reveal the kind of people who will see God clearly and represent His heart to the world. Jesus congratulates the merciful and the pure in heart because they reflect the very nature of God Himself.
-
In Part Five, “Peacemakers & Persecuted,” we see the culmination of Jesus’ kingdom vision. True disciples are called not just to enjoy inner peace, but to actively make peace in a broken world. And as they do, they will face opposition. Jesus blesses not only the reconcilers but also the rejected—for they reflect the heart of God and carry the kingdom wherever they go. These final Beatitudes remind us that we don’t live for the world’s approval, but for the congratulations of God.
